Typography everywhere

My second semester already started, we have a new assignment. Really hard one. We have to come up with visual identity for new company/organisation which would help and give advices  to Danish companies, which want to start to do business in Africa with African food and export it to the Denmark. This project in the biginning, marketing students from UCN are preparing event together with students from Food college which will be attended by all ministers and businessmen. Our school got quite huge grant for that, we got it also because they like to work with students who have also practical experiences. The name of this project is Pure business, so from now the only word I see everywhere is "Pure".
We had quite lot lectures about typography lately, so you can imagine the way I do grocery shopping now : I get stuck upon every package judging typeface and logo ( and then I get angry when I saw the price :D but that is the old story).

Great book. I made new tradition: buy a new book every time I am in Amsterdam.
Do you now how average design student looks like ? Well, he/she knew that he/she would like to be designer at the age of 16 and 3/4, he/she use bike to get around, likes pasta for lunch, wakes up at 8:46 ( haha not my case), weights 65 and that is an achievement considering he/ she do not exercise, his/her most valuable possession is computer and  that is all as an example ( I am lazy to write all the things).

 Busy bitch...interesting name

Amsterdam part 3

After being in Amsterdam 6 times I finally made it to Rijksmuseum, so I finally saw Rembrandt´s Night Watch or Vermeer´s Milkmaid. I do not really know what took me so long. In afternoon we went to Stamppotje to try traditional dutch mash potatoes with vegetable. Stamppotje is winter version of our favourite Ijscuypje ice-cream shop. During this stay in Amsterdam I also visited Rembrandthuis, where I was able to see how Rembrandt lived while he was in Amsterdam.
The other day we went to the city on foot, because we wanted to show Amsterdam to friends who came to visit us and the city. It is always good to remind how city looks when you are not on a bike, it is more touristic feeling. We went to see some hofjes, non-touristic streets of Jordaan and we stopped for a coffee at EYE.
That is all about Amsterdam, now I am back in Aalborg where I´ve started my second semester at UCN.

Amsterdam part 2

On Sunday we went to one of my favourite museum in Amsterdam,  FOAM museum, to see William Klein retrospective photo exhibition. Exhibition presented his abstract, documentary and fashion photographs. I must say that black and white fashion photos were the best, nothing can beat classical analog BW photography. After exhibition we grabed our bikes and cycled to Jordaan district to find one nice caffee house, but we weren´t able to find it so we ended up in Proust bar, which we also wanted to visit.
I could not miss a chance to visit Blue caffee house, which is cafe with the best view in Amsterdam. You can enjoy you coffee(or fresh mint tea) while watching whole Amsterdam from above.
Next day was all about Art Deco,  we went to beautiful Stadsarchief, which is Amsterdam City archive. This building was a bank in the past and now you can visit its beautiful art deco treasury, where you can learn little bit about Amsterdam history from city archive documents and good news is that the entrance is free. Visual identity was done by Amsterdam based design studio Thonik, which also did Amsterdam library visual identity or visual identity of Conservatorium van Amsterdam. Our next stop was Tuschinski theatre, famous movie theater where all festive premieres took place. This building which reminds me little bit of some scary horror house, that you would probably find in amusement park is few meters from Rembrandtplein and Flower Market.
That is all  for today, now you can enjoy some photos I´ve took.

Amsterdam part 1

After successful portfolio evaluation  (which ment end of the first semester for me) I went to Amsterdam for few days. I could not wait to see Jan. It is alway great to be back in Amsterdam. And this time it was also great that I could escape snowy weather in Denmark and enjoy temperatures above zero, not mentioning that I was thrilled each time when I could see a sun shining. I must say that I am enjoying cycling in Amsterdam way more than in Aalborg, not only because you are not alone on bike path, but also because there are so many things you can watch while riding, that much that you need to decide if you are going to observe people or building or grachts in order not to be overwhelmed by everything at once.

Leaving snowy Denmark

 Foggy welcome at Amsterdam

 dinner time

Beauty of Amsterdam is that you can always find a new lovely streets and views
