First Year Exam

With the beginning of June the first year exam came. We had to choose real client but we did not have to contact him. By June second we had to get approved our problem formulation and then we had till 11 th June to make the products, write synopsis and do logbook. I have decided to choose challenging and little bit difficult project to do. Instead of making some easy visual identity for business I made promotional material about whooping cough and cocoon strategy for Regional Public Health Authority. Sadly for me I got the worst possible supervisor. Shortly she was too lazy to read what my project is about and at the guidance meeting she just had 15 minutes long monolog about how hard it would be for me to uphold my childish design. On the top of that all she asked if she can see bacteria which causes whooping cough by naked eye (OMG!) and at the end of her monologue she ask what disease it is (because she did not understand the English name of the disease). So at the end I spent more time by writing argumentation for my design and doing research whether my design is understandable for the target audience. Survey results proved that design is understandable and brought me some possible interesting opportunities of collaboration with one company which is making vaccines and medicaments. They are very interested to make this campaign with me. So maybe I will be lucky and thanks to their budget we will be able to print out nice promo materials. If it is going to be published by Public Health Authority the budget will be definitely much smaller. So this is great opportunity.

After handing it today I have 14 free days before oral evaluation. I guess I am going to die of boredom. I am almost ready with poster and program for Eliska´s master recital at Conservatorium van Amsterdam, I have even updated my website portfolio, cleaned up my stuff here. My bike looks like needle case. Two days ago I had a flat tire again, because despite the condition of my bike I went for the little trip to nature. So  I cannot bike that much so it won´t break compleately till the end of June. I am trying to speed up Idea´s factory working speed, so we can start making programmes for the Orkester Norden concert, because otherwise I don’t know what else to do here. I just want to go home so badly, instead of wasting the time here. I don´t want to spend just 4 days at home, it is not enough when I had to visit doctors, see my family and friends and pack up things to Amsterdam. Yeah and I want to get away from my roomie who is very grumpy lately (fly weight stomping around like an elephant ;) ), obviously first year exam was too much for her and she could not stand me being done with exam in advance. I am sorry but that is the way how I work. ;) I hope it will get better soon :)

End of May

Finally at the end of May our magazine was finished and we had very successful evaluation. So I guess the hard work paid off. At least I have decent example that I can work with layout for my portfolio. And seeing Danish students fighting in front of our magazine, who is going to see it first, is priceless. At the end of May we also got the results of our Insights personality test followed with a quite good workshop where we could see who filled up the questionnaire according to the truth and who did not understand it and filled it up according to how they want to be. I dont have to mention that they were exactly the same people who are blindly copying work and behaviour of other people around. Not having own ideas, pesonallity and opinion is the worst thing for designers I guess. By the way I am blue; the one who is task oriented, needs to have list of tasks for everything and who is perfectionist and good observer. :D
After handing in the magazine it was time to start think about the theme for the first year exam and last project of this semester. I decided to do medical information campaigh about whooping cough and cocoon strategy. It is not easy, but definitely challenging.
P.S. I guess that thanks to the awesome carnival I got ill.
P.P.S I promise I will stop spamming with pictures of nature, but there is not better way to relax & escape from grumpy people than to go to the nature :)

there is nothing better than having your work printed out

Aalborg karneval- my point of view

Saturday 24th May was for most of the young people the one day in year they have been waiting for: famous Aalborg karneval Parade. Amazing opportunity to get drunk at 10 AM during the biggest carnival in Scandinavia. This was preceded by week of events fo both professional carnival groups, children and everybody who wants to act on his or her instincts and create their own costume and join the celebration of life (as wiki said). I decided not to dress up but just to watch it and I must say that there are the reasons why this kind of entertaining should start in the evening and not in the morning, not everyone wants to watch how people are puking and peeing all around the city. In the beginning it was nice to watch all the people dressed up in all kinds of crazy costumes, but then we get bored and decided to spend calm afternoon in the Karolinelund park away from carnival hell.

Later in the afternoon and get to realize how poorly (from my point of view) was the mass gathering situation handled. I was on my way home when I get stuck in the crowd of carnival people, because no one from the officers standing around not warned me that the street is barred with fence and if I will keep going straight I won´t be able to turn to the side streets. So I was carried away with the crowd together with my bike on a street full of garbage and broken bottles. Then the crowd become really dense, I was stuck between drunk people and I slowly started to have small panic attack because nowhere in the sight was officer or medic. And this all happened just because they were so stupid to put the fence around the street because they prepared a party for chosen ones or for people who had a tickets in Kildepark on the right side of the street and the whole parade was going this direction. Because of the fence being everywhere everyone get stuck there: people who were waiting to get inside, people who were drinking and finishing their alcohol before entering the park (because they were not allowed to bring their alcohol inside) and lastly people who just ended up here not knowing what happened and why everything is finishing here. To help the crowd to be stuck even more people were leaving their festive prams and trolleys in which they carried the alcohol (I saw some of the trying to get them out of the way but because of the high fence they were almost not able to throw them away). After this shock I had to mobilize myself and act quickly to figure out how to get out of this. I bite the bullet and began to make my way back, finally after while I found the street which allowed me to get out of the carnival madness.

I just don’t want to imagine what would happened if someone would collapse in the huge carnival crowd.
After this experience I feel like not wanting to experience this ever again; garbage drunk people everywhere during the daylight, no thanks!

I cannot help to ask myself how they manage to clean everything and how they tried to prevent the spread of diseases, when the streets were not much cleaned even on Monday. I now appreciate even more how the Dutch people manage to keep cleaning the city throughout the King´s day in Amsterdam.

And next time I am going to spent Aalborg karneval far awy from city center somewhere in the beautiful nature. :)

Photo actions in May

During the weekend of 17th and 18th May I had on schedule 2 photoshoots. The first one was quite easy; I wanted to take pictures of posters which I printed out previously and hang them up in the not so common environment for posters to be hang up. Lately I have called this serie "Invasion". I went to the forest close to Drastrup and I thought tht I am not going to come across anyone, but I did and they were looking really surprised, when watching me trying to hang up the posters on tree branches.
The next photoshoot was tattoo tribes photoshoot for Ela´s article. We met in the morning and according to Ela´s sketches we drew on ourself tattooes by using makeup iliner. It was fun and when they backcomb my hair I could not recognize myself. We went to the same forest as I did the previous day and took all the pictures we needed and I think they came out pretty nice. I can say that I really missed this kind of photoshoot I havent take a such pictures for quite a long time.
In the evening we went to Juli´s and Andy´s  place to relax little bit and enjoy barbecue on the roof with a beautiful view of fjord and sunset.
My photoshooting period continued on Monday with me taking portraits and group photos of Idea Factory, you can see the result here.
