The perks of working in a group

Past few days were all about creating poster for Mexican museum of Design. The theme was To death with a smile. After a while I was seeing skulls, skeletons and all those things everywhere. Thankfully it is not just overwork, it is also because Halloween in coming.  For the first time I had experienced difficulty of Danish school system and that is working in a group. If you have a great enthusiastic and communicative people in your group you are definitely happy person. And that was not my case. I am in a group with guys who do not go to school so often. At the beginning I was trying to make a discussion in order to get one great idea with which we can then work. But the reality was way different. After me sending them lots of tips and links, where they can do the research and find ideas, we finally met (not to mention that it was after 10 days from day when we got that assignment). I was shocked; they just bring one picture or one graphic idea without a message behind it. Of course they have quickly agreed upon my idea. First part of work went quite quickly I have created pattern and one guy from my group applied on the skull. But then they stopped caring about our assignment and we got stucked. I was trying to send them lots of messages with ideas how to finish our background. I was trying to set a meeting with them, but even if they said: "Ok we can meet tomorrow after school", they did not even showed up at school. When I get really angry and nervous I wrote them, that we really need to finish it (it was a quite long message with lots of links with inspiration), one of them just read it and did not write anything and the other one wrote me in the evening that he got drunk, so that is why he was not at school. The next day he came to me and asked what is your idea, I told him that I wrote that idea to them yesterday in that message, his answer was just Oh I did not read it properly I was drunk and then he left. Great! When they finally sober, they read that message and came up with pretty idiotics ideas how to finish our poster background. They did not keep the original topic at all. Then our next meeting did not happened and I was really disappointed. When we had project guidance at school and guys from my group were not at school again I finally found courage to ask Diana (our teacher) what I should do with that. He told me that I should give them one last chance, set a meeting and if they did not showed up; I should present my own poster on Tuesday. Luckily I was working on my own poster, because I and my friends decided to make our own posters and send them to that competition. Just give it a try. It can be useful for our future portfolio.
And what about guys, it seems like deadline is powerful witch! We met on Friday, discuss our poster and agreed upon reasonable background for our poster. Lets see what our teachers will said about our poster on Tuesday, when we are having poster evaluation. Now when I know that their little afford will not affect my studies, I am way calmer. And I can calmly looking forward to leaving Aalborg on Tuesday evening. I am going to spend our autumn break in Amsterdam (actually our study program does not have autumn break, some others do, but we had 4 days off in our time schedule and plus weekend it is 6 days without school).
I hope to take a break from my grumpy annoying roomie and spend beautiful time in my beloved city with my beloved people.

  1. My sweet beloved friend! I had so much fun reading this article. You are so brave, creative and responsible person and I am sure you will see its results in your life.
"pretty idiotic ideas" made my laugh so hard! :D
I also love the pictures, especially the one with the new Anita poster. I've got the Fellini newspaper from Eye pinned to my board and there is the same picture. It makes me happy to know that we have something similar in our rooms even though we live sooo faaar from each other.
I hope you enjoy your stay in Amsterdam.
    I miss you tons!
