De Odyssee and Origami

On 21. August we went to see De Odyssee dance performance at Westergasfabriek and it was beautiful. It was happening in former factory at Westerpark which is now used for cultural actions and events. It was a modern dance performance about ancient story of Odysseus. I really loved group dances because they were interesting, everyone was synchronised and the feeling of seeing 40 dancers doing the same thing at once is very impressive. The dance was energetic and I loved they were not afraid to cast people who were not the perfect definition of ballet dancer body. The scene in the factory´s big space was designed very nicely and effectively. They also had live orchestra and choir. I was so surprised that the whole choir was casted by elderly people; It was nice to see those people enjoying singing and being part of this modern dance performance. We were able to see that all people participating in the whole project are having great time together, when we went to sit for a beer after the performance to a bar right next to the Westergasfabriek, we found them there having after-performance beer and chat. The performance was part of Grachtfestival and was on the program almost every day for 14 days.

Few days after I had a day of and I was searching the internet for the museum I could visit. I wanted to visit something I have never visited before, so I went to the Tropenmuseum. Tropen museum is ethnographic museum with some permanent exhibitions about Southeast Asia, Oceania, Western Asia and North Africa, Africa, Latin America, and Music, Dance and Theatre. You can also find in the museum ongoing series of temporary exhibitions, including both modern and traditional visual arts and photographic work. I was pleasantly surprised that one temporary exhibition is about origami. Since I like origami I was interested in seeing it and as the posters were saying it is giga origami it definitely was a giga origami: big origami birds hovering above big hall.
